Ok, this seems to be getting the same attention as any other topic involving myself and the same old debates, its the same old story, there are those who knock me and those who praise my efforts but at the end of the day I dont really give a f**k, I dont do what I do to be praised and couldnt care less about comments knocking me, bottom line is that I play a sport I love, try my arse off to compete at the highest level, help others in the game and have self belief which is percieved by some as cockyness and arrogance but that is others view on myself.
Those that know me and have met me in person have different views to those that only know me from dart forums, I have and always will take my time to speak to and answer peoples questions about myself as a dart player and invite anyone to speak to me and address their problems/concerns or questions to myself and I am only too willing to take my time in answering those as long as it is not made into a public debate on forums in attempts to belittle me.

Cheers slim, yes I do give a lot of my time helping or giving advise to beginners or improving players that have contacted me for help and advise and also put time and effort into the practise league challenges I do through this forum. After what I have been through with the injury to my hand, operations and almost 18 months with not being able to throw darts, I certainly wont quit now, never been a quitter and always put 100% into darts and feel that it is only a matter of time before my efforts are rewarded.

hmmmm, so lets say i or a business partner wanted to advertise something. and rather than pay a tv station money to have an advert, or a radio station money to advertise our product we thought the best option would be to get a well known darts player who is going to appear on tv to advertise our product. lets say we were offering £10,000 for the year. the players we had in mind for arguments sake were robbie green, jason clark, dave chisnall and yourself. the first 3 players would be viable options of getting us tv coverage for our initial £10,000 outlay. where as you have never played on tv. do you think you warrant a sponsorship when your claim to fame is a darts forum big-shot ? will posts on a darts forum by you get me and my business partners product on the tv ? Andy Hamilton is looking for a sponsor at the moment if you were interested....he's a regular on the televised scene.

Andy's a handy enough player but I don't think anyone would describe him as a character. Nice lad I'm sure but lacking carisma I'm sure a switched-on sponsor would see the potential for bags of coverage by backing DBG. There's always plenty of talking points and the fella must be coaching more players around the country than anyone else - that's pretty brave, helping potential competitors.

tounguesten. a potential sponsor would be far better of sponsoring someone currently in the top 10 and playing regulary on the tv , than to sponsor an unknown player. whos best chance of tv coverage this year would be the uk open. so to put up somewhere in the region of £10.000 for a years sponsorship we would get nothing back in return for a full years investment. even if our busisness was to have an open day and have david as a meet and greet guest as part of his sponsorship , who outside of a handfull of forum junkies would know him. what would our potential clients say if we advertised daveboygreen is going to be there as a guest. im afraid business does not work like that and we would be seen as a laughing stock and even potentially lose clients. "dave who ?" im sure would be the response.

I can certainly see your point in getting value for money from who you sponsor but televised events are not the be all and end all of sponsoring a player, your company name would also appear on the shirt of the dart player you sponsor up and down the country and also abroad at 40+ tournaments throughout the year. Advertising including web links to sponsors buisnesses on dart players websites is also something that can benefit sponsors, players promoting their sponsors buisness through word of mouth to others when asked about their sponsors or where approprite, and of corse through dart forums where even people like Unicorns management post and read through. 10k would not get your name on the shirt of a top 10 player in the P.D.C, Unicorn already sponsor Taylor, Wade, Part, Terry Jenkins and Lewis of the worlds top 10 in the P.D.C and if your company would conflict with Unicorn then that leaves you Barney, Priestley, King, Mardle and Lloyd, all players that are well sponsored and it is almost certain that none of them would give you more than just your company name on their shirts and on their websites for £10k, sponsorship deals can include a great number of things including percentage of winnings, exchibitions, advertising, personal appearances, signed products, charity event appearances etc depending on the deal made between the player and the sponsor.

I think you are mistaken their regarding the 10k not getting my compaines name on a top 10 players shirt.
As for someone opting to go for Dave to advertise their product on his shirt, Or to do public appearances i think you are deluded in thinking he would bring in clients for my business. As without TV exposure their would be no publicity. As for him going up and down the country to various opens that are not televised i have been present at some of these opens, and but for the players in attendance you maybe have 2 men and their dog spectating. So that would not bring in publicity. Now for arguments sake i then shell out some fliers, and also spend yet more money on radio saying special guest in store daveboygreen, come see him and get some signed merchandise ect. Am i then going to spend money advertising an appearnace from soneone im paying 10k per year to advertise my product/business ?
You mention taking a cut of his winnings, would this not mean im also his manager as well as a patch on his dart shirt ?
I am trying to visualise the charity event you mention in your post, Lets say for arguments sake 3 to 400 hundred people pay for tickets for a charity event that is advertisins a mystery dart player they can get signed autograph of and meet the player ect. How would my business look and my credibility as a business man be if i brought out daveboygreen as the player ?
So lets say i hand over next week 10k to Dave for this year upto Feb 2010. And im gambling on this 10k investment bringing in masses of custom due to him advertising on his shirt. Im saving 40k as im not going down the Radio and Tv advert route. But still 10k i am paying for hiim to advertise. Do you in your right mind tonguesten thing i will be making a sound investment, Or would i be better of using a player in the worlds top 10 ?

Do you in your right mind tonguesten thing i will be making a sound investment, Or would i be better of using a player in the worlds top 10 ? In my view, AndyH has reached the peak of his powers. Good player but, unfortunately, he doesn't capture the public's imagination. In Dave Boy Green, you're encapsulating the spirit of Evan, Wilson, Bristow, Wallace - all still talked about, still high in the public conciousness. You have to invest in the future. Too many of the bankers looked at short-term gain and paid a high price. The question is whether or not you're bold enough to invest in a personality. Think of the people in sport and showbiz that get talked about. The ones who get most searches on websites. I've been in the media and marketing world for years and I know that web presence is now top priority for progressive companies. It's a major worry for newspapers but a real window of opportunity for advertisers.

The man has no website. Not in the top 10. Never will reach the top 10. Ive re-searched him on various darts forums and found his results in the PDC not eye-catching, Infact laughable if im honest as a potential sponsor. He has been beaten soundly twice in matches against Robbie Greene.
Dave may well encapsualte the spirit of the late Alan Evans, and also the spirit of Wilson. But he does not encapuslate there talent. And that when all is said and done is what a sponsor is looking for. Someone talented enough to be playing on the TV regualry. To even mention Dave in the same breath as AndyH is an insult to AndyH. The only thing they have in common is they both throw darts at a dart board. There the similarity ends.
Now IF daveboygreen was a household name, the a 10k investment would be a sound venture.
However you say too many bankers looked at short term gain and paid a high price, isnt that slightly hypocritical ? In that lets say an investor was gambling with a clients money and the gamble was on some stocks and shares, Lets say the company was called for arguments sake davegreen incorparated. Now lets say in the past davegreen incorprated had been invloved in some hap-hazard business deals involving say "dogs" and "tools" both these business deals failed with catastrophic consequences. So we then have davegreen incorparted with a proven track record for failure on a grand scale. Also davegreen incorparatedlets say did its own PR which again has only failed to tarnish this companies reputation. So having said all that and going back to your point of investing for the future, and grading it alongside gambling with someone elses money. if i went to my investors and said ive invested your money in "dave green incorparated" were onto a winner. Do you think they will see it as a sound investment. Investing in the future on a business that has falied in the past on so many levels.
If he was a company he would have gone into adminstration years ago.
Is the bankers who looked for short term gain, similar to the ones who gambled on a dead horse. Now the bankers would not have envisaged the banks to go bust, where as im sure not one single one would go for a gamble on a business with the reputation and credentials of the "davegreen incorparated"
I still say AndyH would be a viable option if both he and Dave were side by side infront of the bankers/investors on an episode of Dragons Den or whatever the program is called on BBC.
