The British Darts Organisation (BDO) has rejected a buy-out offer from the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).
Delegates from 65 BDO counties met on Sunday and after a majority vote instructed their governing body to rebuff the takeover bid.
PDC chief Barry Hearn offered £1m for the BDO in October.
BDO chief Olly Croft initially rejected the offer, calling it a "cheap publicity stunt", before turning the decision over to the counties.
The acrimonious split between the BDO and PDC, which have rival world championships on the BBC and Sky respectively, stretches back to 1993.
A group of 16 rebel players, including 15-time world champion Phil Taylor, broke away to create their own organisation, initially called the World Darts Council (WDC).
In his buy-out bid, Hearn had offered to honour all existing contracts with sponsors, venues and the BBC, and said he would invest a further £1m into the grass-roots of the sport.
"We [the PDC] know what we are doing and want to invest in the future of darts," said Hearn.
"The BDO made £16,000 profit last year. The PDC made £1m profit, had a turnover of £9m and has roughly £3m in the bank.
"I would suggest that if the BDO really care about the sport of darts and the millions of players, then you should accept offers and let us inject not just finance, but professional management to run darts in a modern and effective manner."

i reckon the counties are mad to turn down the offer. olly croft is still stuck in the 80's era and needs to bring himself forward to 2010. i love watching darts but find i only watch certain people play when the bdo tourney's are on. the coverage the bbc give aint that great it still reminds me of years ago when my dad use to watch it. martin fitzmaurice thinks he's a stand up comedian but really he's just olly crofts bumboy. the bdo need to inject some life back into the company if they aint gonna sell. it'll get to a point were the best players will end up leaving for the pdc to ply their trade against bigger opponents for more money and all that will be left is people that aint pdc standard and martin adams.

anyone witha brain can see he will now use that money offered to the marron blazer and meat raffle mob to fund a 2nd tier pdc circut
every sport has the feeder system, golf is a good example with the challenge tour. the top 20 in the rankings earn a pga tour card. with the pdc tour card starting in 2011 a 2nd tear will be needed
all the anti pdc mob will say it wont work and no one will leave the county/super league system but give it 2 years when the bbc dont renew the lakeside contract and be surprised how loyal players are then when all they can win is the meat raffle
