CANCER-stricken soccer hero John Hartson is today fighting for his life in hospital after emergency brain surgery.
The ex-Wales, Arsenal, West Ham and Celtic striker was due to start chemotherapy on Monday after testicular cancer spread to his brain.
Specialists warned the 34-year-old star's family that the disease had worsened and may have spread to other parts of his body.
John was given the devastating news that he had brain cancer after he went into hospital with splitting headaches.
The tough striker — a pundit on collapsed sports channel Setanta after he quit football last year — was transferred yesterday from Singleton Hospital in Swansea, Wales, to the nearby Morriston Hospital for specialist care.
The hospital confirmed that he had undergone emergency neurosurgery to relieve pressure on his brain caused by tumours.
His family was at his bedside.
