Newsroom Staff CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to confirm that Tony Mowbray has been appointed the new Celtic manager. Tony will be joined at Celtic by Mark Venus, Peter Grant and Neil Lennon in the new Celtic management team.
This is fantastic news for the club and we look forward to officially unveiling Tony as the new Celtic manager at a news conference at Celtic Park tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17) at 10am.
That'll do for me ;D

So what are people expecting of him ? Obviously you can't expect much in season one, but in the whole once he has the team and tactics and a couple of players brought in.
There's potential for a great passing team from what I seen from him at West Brom, but obviously they'll need to do more in the final third than WBA did. I'm sure that Celtic have guys in there who will relish that. It'll also be interesting to see what happens with Chris Killen who is a player Mowbray knows all about. Will he get a second chance as a Celtic striker ? I reckon he will. Completely unproven which is a shame.
I think his main problem comes in sorting out the defence, which is probably the weakest part of the Celtic squad at the moment. When your main choices come from McManus and Loovens, you know you have problems. Lee Naylor might need to be replaced as he's getting on a bit as well. Aiden McGeady might be moved over to the right now, which could suit him as his delivery with the right foot is actually not bad. Maybe we haven't seen him at his best against better opposition because he might actually have more potential on the right. This would also open up another chance for Maloney to prove himself on the left. A good centre midfielder of the Lennon mould could be a handy acquisition.

In my opinion any half decent manager could do a job for Rangers or Celtic, it is always a 50/50 every season.

Absolutely, and that will give him more time in the job instantly. The main complaint about Strachan was the style of football he had Celtic playing. The other thing about this though is that the board have been pretty much trimming and trimming. How much in wages and transfer funds will they allow Mowbray in order for him to be able to get the team playing that football, and to do it successfully ? I'm not just talking about the SPL. The team they have should be good enough to stroll that playing the right way. I mean beyond.
There's a difference between knowing what it's like as a player, and having the pressure as a manager. A lot of people wanted Strachan out of the door after his very first competitive game. Tony Mowbray has never had that weight on his shoulders, and probably won't have it either, but that highlights just how different it is as a player and a manager.

I think the big guy will do well, he's had a good grounding in management and is ready for the next step.
If he is wise with his signings he can do well.

I think this weekend has shown why Mowbray has such a hard task ahead. He is going to be outbid by Hull City for Fortune. Yes. Hull City. The board are quite clearly not interested in giving out the proper funding needed for Mowbray to make a significant difference in the club. The most annoying thing, and Mowbray is probably peeved by this as well, is that Fortune actually wanted to sign for Celtic and play under the manager.
No ambition. If that doesn't change, Mowbray won't stay, if the fans and directors want him or not.

Celtic and Rangers aren't the pull they used to be though.
Celtic CAN attract decent players, but it's really going to have to be players that pretty much nobody else is looking at by the looks of things. Hull City are one of the more careful clubs in the EPL when it comes to spending money ( like most teams who haven't been there long ), and yet they can outbid. Celtic can't afford to compete with that for every bid they make obviously, but they're going to have to do it at least once. Whether they do it or not comes down to that one thing again though. Ambition.
