It's been looking bad for a while now. Losing that EPL package was pretty much the end of the line. Unless ESPN are willing to pick them up and really take them to the next level, I think this might well be it for Setanta which is a shame. Even clubs like Morton see a good chunk of their money as the SPL gives the SFL clubs about 1.5m a season. While Morton have what is known as a "sugar daddy" in control of things, if we were to ever sell out, we would be in trouble without the money coming in. The SPL clubs will obviously be the worst hit. Things aren't looking rosy for the Scottish game. There is an upside, but dinner is out. I'll be back.

Aaaaaand I'm back.
The teams that survive this could well bring out something of a revolution in Scottish football. With the decline in quality of our game, I don't think we'll even get a quarter of the offer that was made by Setanta for our top league, so what is going to happen is that SPL clubs are going to have to cull and bring through young players right across the board. As a result of that, our national team might well flourish. Our game might become more attractive because of the young players coming through and that can only be a good thing as well.
It'll be sad to lose clubs because of the loss of money, and it's good to see the SPL doing what they can right now. For all of the mistakes that the SPL have made, they have done a great deal to try and ensure the future of the Scottish game and that can only be commended by the fans and teams alike.
